THE WANDERESS | DEDICATED TO THOSE WHO MOVE THROUGH
THE WORLD WITH LIGHT FEET, OPEN HEARTS
& PURPOSEFUL ACTIONS.
Venice Beach has long been the mecca of that salty, Southern California vibe. It holds a special kind of energy that entrances those who weren’t raised surf board in hand — understandably so, we too love to flock to the boardwalk for a day soaking in the sun. Charmed still by its cliché’s, and its cool new neighborhood haunts, photographer Isabella Bejarano joined The Wanderess to create our guide to killing a day in Venice Beach.
Breakfast at Butcher’s Daughter | You must fuel yourself for a day of dodging tourists on your beach cruiser, and trying on vintage bikini cover-ups. The Butcher’s Daughter recently spread its infamous healthy eats from NY to LA, nestling in on Abbot Kinney. We suggest the avocado toast with a poached egg (it’s a classic), and an iced latte by their coffee purveyor Vittoria — it hails from Australia and is truly caffeine worth downing in large doses.
Shop Like a Local | Work off your breakfast with a quick loop around Abbot Kinney. This little street is home to some of the best shopping, and the only place you can find a brick-and-mortar the Stone Cold Fox store. Talk about the kind of souvenir you really want to bring home.
Get Zen at The Now | LA’s new favorite place to be pampered has opened its sweet doors in Santa Monica. The Now is insanely well priced (massages start at $35), and the minimally rustic interiors will have you wanting to move in ASAP. When you’ve snapped out of your post massage bliss, stop next-door for a Pressed Juicery refresher (our favorite is the vanilla coffee).
Boardwalk Empire | The Venice boardwalk is the center of beach culture, littered with leftovers from golden years past. It can often feel like you’ve hoped in a time machine, and that’s why it’s so loved. From muscle beach, to the skate park, you don’t want to miss taking a peek. If you want to get the gist without walking in hoards of tourists we suggest taking a beach cruiser out for a whirl.
Sundowners at Sunset | As the day comes to a close, find the perfect spot to nestle into the sand and watch the sun (and crowds) head to bed, glass of rosé in hand.
Other Mentionables | Biker Gang: An insider secret to snagging a beach cruiser is to borrow them from the Rag & Bone store. They are free, and chic.
Dinner with Friends: Our favorite spots to finish off a day in Venice with a tummy full of incredible food, and a table full of friends is either Scopa (save room for their amazing Cannoli), or Gjelina — it’s a classic.
Cream Dreams: If you can fare the long line, Salt & Straw is more than worth the wait. It’s the perfect cold treat on a scorching day.
